In 2000, the World Health Organization stated that at least 171 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes. It is estimated that by the year 2030, this number will double. The greatest increase in prevalence is expected to occur in Asia and Africa, where most patients will likely be found by 2030.

Diabetes Research Assistance Fund

Our mission is to fund scientific research grants; provide medical supplies and equipment to programs that treat diabetes and other chronic diseases; and sponsor diabetes education, information and nutritional programs. We devoutly carry out this mission internationally.

Diabetes Research Assistance Fund in a non-profit international organization dedicated to provide support and medical equipment and supples to other organizations, hospitals and clinics.

The past year has been one of growth and utilizing our resources to maximize our impact in providing funds for assistance and continued research in hopes of finding a cure for diabetes. Diabetes Research Assistance Fund has been driven by the challenges of providing research grants, aid, and support to those who suffer from diabetes. It is our committment to help provide information and assistance to the general public concerning diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Programs and Services

Country: Mexico
Location: Mexicali, Baja California

DRAF provides monthly grants to Consultorio Dr. Juan Guicho at Centro De Salud "Orizaba" to treat diabetes patients throughout Mexicali, B.C., Mexico. Thirty to forty new patients with diabetes are treated each month and given monitors, medication and literature on the prevention of diabetes. A special grant was given to purchase a prosthetic leg for Eugenia Aguayo. Eugenia's left leg was amputated due to diabetes and she could no longer work and support her family. She is now in therapy with new hope of returning to work to support her family.

Diabetes Research Assistance Fund provided to Desarrollo Intergral de la Familia a shipment of assorted medical supplies (Blood Monitors, Medicines, Hospital Equipment, Wheel Chairs, etc.) valued at over $500,000. This shipment was distributed to hospitals and clinics to help those with diabetes and chronic diseases in Mexicali, B.C. Mexico. Over one thousand plus people were helped. A plaque and letter of special recognition was given to Diabetes Research Assistance Fund from Sra. Gracie Salas Ramos, Presidenta of DIF.
